Saturday the Jeremy Campbell Motorsports team traveled to Lawton Speedway, in Lawton, Oklahoma with the ASCS Sooner Region. In Campbell’s first visit to the big ¼ mile he was able to adapt quickly to changing conditions and bring home a solid top 5 finish.
Campbell started on the outside front row of heat 2, and battled both the strong winds and Texas’s
John Carney until a late race mistake by Carney gave Campbell the opportunity he needed to clinch the heat race win.
Wayne Johnson and Campbell made up the front row of the feature event, and as the green flag dropped the rapidly approaching storm and strong wind gusts made for a tricky first few laps.
“The wind and heat combined and the track changed way quicker than we were expecting. The ASCS team did a great job of running our event through quickly so we got the show in, but I was really trying at the beginning to make something happen on the top, and with tonight’s track, it just wasn’t there” said Campbell.
Once the field spread out Campbell began to pick his way back to the front, and was able to salvage a top five finish, coming to the checkers John Carney, Wayne Johnson, Steven Shebester and Kevin Ramey.
Next up for the 8-time 81 Speedway, 4-time NCRA Champion is a ASCS Warrior vs Sooner Region event at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas Saturday September 24th.
Jeremy Campbell Motorsports is supported by marketing partners including Scott’s Well Service, Dan’s Cycle, Knoche Farms, Knoche Transport, Mel Hambelton Ford Racing, BEPC, Maxim Chassis, Hepfner Racing Products and many other long time industry and local sponsors.
